Comcast Corp. is the nation's second-largest broadband provider, with an estimated 9,344,000 at year-end 2006. It is the largest cable operator, with 26,780,352 subscribers at year-end 2006, according to Kagan Research.
Comcast's basic home Internet packages are for downstream speeds of 4 Megabits per second (Mbps), 6 Mbps, 8 Mbps, or 17.6 Mbps. Upstream speeds are 384 kilobits per second (kbps), or 768 Kbps in conjunction with the 8 Mbps downstream package. Comcast offers a speedier and more expensive option of 16 Mpbs downstream and 1 or 2 Mbps upstream .
In April 2008, Comcast offered the new DOCSIS 3.0 for $150.00 per month in parts of Minnesota.
In a less publicized offering, Comcast sells reduced speed of 768Kbps down/384 Kbps up.

Seems really slow at times. Usually, if I "restart" or unplug my modem for a minute or two, it sort of solves the problem. Whenever McAfee decides to update, that virtually stops my interent period.

This service varies in speed depending on the time of day and whether the neighborhood kids are in school or not. I don't know how many nodes we have but I can say that they are truly loaded to the max at times and my download speed can crawl.

Very unreliable - goes up and down often, usually lower than promised speeds at all time. they are also nearing $70/mo. Lack of competition is a huge problem.

Ed says:
Outrageous price. Upgrade to "Blast" speeds took three days, many long customer service and support phone calls, two on-site visits and the unnecessary replacement of an RCA modem because Comcast was not aware that I needed their new D3 modem. Once I got the D3 modem, I got the promised "Blast" speeds.
